About eight years ago, I visited Savannah, Georgia. With only an afternoon to spend there, we did the "touristy" thing...a horse-drawn carriage ride through the squares. With Spanish Moss hanging from the trees, the voodoo-inspired rain spouts, and charming architecture, the place teemed with history and serenity. It seemed calm...almost unsettlingly so, not just because of the ancient graveyards or the lack of people on the street. It may have had something to do with the Mercer House, the events at which inspired the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Can you picture in your mind the haunting statue of the girl that appears on the cover of the book and movie?
This desk incorporates the elements of my experience in Savannah...the delicate curves of the base remind me of the curvy ornamental gates and fountains at the center of some squares. The Retro Mercury Glass knobs speak to the antiquity of the place. The navy color conjures images of midnight. And the vintage floral paper...the garden of good (and evil).
